U.S. allots $9.4m for Caspian energy security
The United States government has allocated $9.4 million to Azerbaijan for the provision of energy security in the Caspian Sea, the US ambassador in Baku has said.
Matthew Bryza told the press last Saturday that the funds will also be spent to purchase new technical facilities.
Bryza said Washington is closely following Azerbaijan’s policy on energy security and continues cooperating with the resource-rich Caspian state in this area.
The ambassador noted that he has discussed plans on the protection of Caspian energy infrastructure with Azerbaijani Defense Minster Safar Abiyev.
"I presented to him some details of the October 10 visit by a number of high-ranking Azerbaijani officials to the U.S. to study energy infrastructure issues."
The Azerbaijani delegation includes representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the State Border Service, Emergency Situations Ministry, the State Maritime Administration, as well as Naval Forces.
The delegation will visit four states. The visit is paid in accordance with a program of ensuring security of key energy facilities.
