Pakistan seeks Azeri aid for flood relief
Pakistani Ambassador in Baku Inayat Ullah Kakar has sought assistance from Azerbaijan to alleviate the impact of deadly floods in his country.
Kakar told a news conference Thursday that the floods, caused by torrential rains, have severely damaged infrastructure and rural regions in Pakistan.
"23 regions and about 40,000 villages were affected by the natural disaster, and some 400 people were killed," Kakar said.
The ambassador said the Pakistani government has made every effort to eliminate the aftermath of the devastating floods, but the scope of the disaster is so huge that the country is unable to do so on its own and in a short time.
"The United Nations and other international organizations and countries are currently providing humanitarian aid to Pakistan. We are expecting the fraternal Azerbaijani people to lend their helping hand as well, just as Azerbaijan helped us during the natural disaster last year."
Kakar said a bank account has been opened for donations. Those willing to provide the assistance may transfer money to the 4501000000203000 account at the Baku branch of the National Bank of Pakistan.
