Azeri deputy education ministers sacked

BAKU – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has ordered to dismiss three deputy education ministers, ministry spokesman Bayram Huseynzada said on Wednesday.

Huseynzada did not give reasons for the dismissals of Irada Huseynova, Elmar Gasymov and Isgandar Isgandarov, saying this was "an issue under the president’s powers".

The dismissed deputy ministers have held their positions for over ten years. All three are members of the governing Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP), and two of them sit on the YAP Political Council.

The ministry spokesman refuted the circulating reports about the allegedly expected dismissal of Minister Misir Mardanov, saying the minister "is at work".

The education ministry’s head of foreign affairs, Gulu Novruzov, was appointed deputy minister, while the other two positions remain vacant.
