Azeri soldier severely wounded on frontline
BAKU – An Azerbaijani soldier has been severely wounded in a ceasefire violation by Armenian armed forces on the contact line of the two countries’ troops near Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli region.
Lieut. Akif Abdiyev, 24, was hospitalized and is in critical condition, according to Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry.
The two countries have been locked in conflict for two decades. 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory has been under Armenian occupation since a precarious cease-fire was signed in 1994 following a lengthy war. Sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
