US phone firm corrects error on Karabakh – report
BAKU – US producer of Internet phone gadgets Magic Jack has reportedly corrected its error after indicating the Armenia-occupied Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as Armenian territory on its website.
The company’s list of international fees now shows Nagorno Karabakh as Azerbaijani territory.
A Magic Jack representative told the Baku-based APA news agency that the error had resulted from "misunderstanding".
The list of fees earlier indicated that calls to Karabakh cost 33 cents per minute.
Azerbaijani diaspora groups had sent a letter to Magic Jack demanding to immediately correct the error. They noted that Nagorno Karabakh is recognized as Azerbaijan’s territory in UN resolutions and by the US State Department, adding that Magic Jack is "sending a wrong signal" to the world community and confusing its customers.
Nagorno Karabakh has been occupied by Armenian armed forces since a 1994 cease-fire ended a war that killed an estimated 30,000 people and ousted up to one million Azerbaijanis from their homes. Ethnic Armenian separatists are running a self-proclaimed republic there.
