Armenia urges money transfer firms to operate in Azeri occupied land
BAKU – Armenia demands international money transfer companies to operate in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories, an executive of a Russian company engaged in money transfers told the Baku-based APA news agency.
The company official who asked not to be named said Armenia lays down as a pre-condition these companies’ operation in the occupied Nagorno Karabakh region, saying that otherwise they would not be allowed to operate in the country.
The Azerbaijani government works hard to prevent operation of any company in the country’s occupied territories. Baku has banned several money transfer systems in Azerbaijan so far over doing business there, and only after the companies halted the illegal operations were they allowed to work in the country.
"Considering this, we are, in a way, faced with a choice," the company executive added.
About 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory has been under the occupation of Armenian armed forces since a war in the early 1990s.
