Azeri FM meets British MPs

BAKU – Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met on Tuesday a British parliamentary delegation led by the member of the House of Commons and Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijan's Friends' Group, Christopher Pincher, the ministry said.

Mammadyarov spoke about the successful collaboration between the UK and Azerbaijan, as well as British companies’ active operations in Azerbaijan. He noted that cooperation with the United Kingdom is developing not only in oil sector, but also in non-oil field of economy.

Speaking about the negotiations to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mammadyarov stressed the need for the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands. He named documents adopted by the international organizations as the legal basis for this. Mammadyarov stressed the impossibility of predicting the future development of the region due to the protracted conflict.

British MPs, in turn, voiced their satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan. The lawmakers noted the importance of enhancing cooperation and developing relations between the UK and Azerbaijan. They expressed a hope for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
