Azeri opposition ‘was not shot at unlike Armenian’ – official

BAKU – Political parties and their activity, the situation with freedom of media and speech in Azerbaijan are in line with international norms, a presidential administration official said Thursday.

Ali Hasanov was commenting on Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's recent statement on the alleged lack of a "normal opposition" and freedom of speech in Azerbaijan.

"Unlike Armenia, the Azerbaijani political opposition was not shot at in parliament, and 10 dissentient people who went to a rally were not shot down," Hasanov said. "Officials in Armenia, where such events are rife, should not compare Armenia with Azerbaijan."
