Number of Azeri women marrying expats slightly up
BAKU – The number of Azerbaijani women marrying foreign nationals has slightly increased, according to official estimates.
640 such marriages were registered in the first half of 2011, compared to 604 in the same period of last year, said Reyhana Karimova, an official at the Justice Ministry’s department in charge of registering matrimonies.
Karimova said nearly 40,000 marriages were registered in the country in the first half-year, 7,100 more than in January-June 2010.
According to her, 792 of the marriages reported in Azerbaijan this year were registered with expatriates. The figure was 773 in the first six months of 2010.
The number of divorces has also increased – to about 5,300 from 4,200 in the first half of 2010.
19 Azerbaijanis have divorced foreign citizens this year, in comparison with 41 reported in the first half of last year.
