BAKU – Development of relations between Romania and Azerbaijan was discussed in the Azerbaijani parliament during the ruling Democratic Liberal Party officials’ visit to Baku Monday.

Bucharest Second District Mayor Neculai Ontanu, who is also an official of the Romanian governing party, heads a delegation of prominent politicians, men of culture and scholars on their visit to Azerbaijan.

First vice speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov stressed while hosting the delegation the close relations between the two countries, saying they considerably strengthened after Azerbaijan regained its independence.

On Azerbaijan`s European integration, Asgarov noted the importance of using Romania`s experience.

The vice-speaker said his country is interested in all-rounded development of relations with Romania, noting the significance of deepening ties between the two countries` ruling parties.

Neculai Ontanu stressed the fact Romania was the second country to recognize Azerbaijan`s independence.

Ontanu said that about 50 documents in various fields have been signed between Azerbaijan and Romania since 2004. He praised the two countries` relations.

The Romanian official noted his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and wants the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia to be resolved on the basis of international law.

The delegation will hold meetings at the ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party’s office, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Union of Writers.

The Romanian representatives are also expected to visit the northern Guba region where they will pay tribute to the mass burial of the people massacred by Armenian nationalists in 1918.
