Azerbaijan, Belarus to sign co-op deals this week: ambassador

BAKU – Azerbaijan and Belarus will sign several agreements during Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich’s visit to Baku this week, the Belarusian envoy said Tuesday.

Ambassador Nikolay Paskevich told the press that during the visit to be paid on Thursday and Friday, a contract on Azerbaijan’s purchasing Belarusian Belaz dump trucks is to be signed, along with a document on mutual recognition of university diplomas.

According to Paskevich, the two countries will hold talks on joint production of utility vehicles at the Ganja Automobile Plant in Azerbaijan. The Belarusian delegation, which includes officials from the foreign affairs, economics, transport and other ministries, will also attend the opening of a workshop assembling Belarusian-German utility vehicles at the Ganja plant.

The ambassador said Belarus and Azerbaijan have signed about 60 documents to date.

"One of the goals of the [Belarusian] prime minister’s visit is to examine the enforcement of a number of agreements signed by the [two countries’] leaders and to outline prospects of cooperation," Paskevich said.

He added that the visit would be crucial for expanding the strategic cooperation between Belarus and Azerbaijan.
