Armenian troops breach ceasefire, one wounded
BAKU – An Azerbaijani soldier has been severely wounded after Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire on the contact line of the two countries’ troops, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry has said.
The 20-year-old serviceman, wounded in the Shahbuz region of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan autonomous republic, is in grave condition.
Ceasefire breaches lasting five to ten minutes were also reported in the Fizuli region on Wednesday and Thursday.
The two South Caucasus republics waged a war in the early 1990s. Armenia has been occupying over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory since then. A ceasefire accord was signed in 1994, but OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
