Health authorities ban several beaches in Azerbaijan

BAKU – Azerbaijan’s health ministry has announced the list of beaches that are closed to the public this year.

People are not allowed to bathe at the Shykh and Sahil beaches in the Garadagh district, south of the capital Baku, the ministry said Tuesday. The two beaches were closed last year as well.

Bathing was also banned at the beaches of Sumgayit, 30 km north of Baku, according to a decision of the city’s senior sanitation doctor.

A test of sea water conducted by the health ministry’s hygiene and epidemiology center revealed that bathing is safe at all beaches in the Absheron Peninsula, which encompasses Baku’s surrounding regions, as well as the southern and northern regions of Azerbaijan.
