Azeri FM meets OSCE PA chair
BAKU – Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met a delegation headed by Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Petros Efthimiou on Friday, the ministry said.
Mammadyarov stressed that the OSCE is the influential international organization and Azerbaijan is interested in further cooperation with it.
The sides exchanged views on peaceful negotiations held through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group on the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mammadyarov said that the holding of Azerbaijani lands under the occupation even more complicated the settlement process of the conflict.
"The first step to be made towards peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the withdrawal of the Armenian troops from the Azerbaijani territories."
He also expressed hope that this step of the Armenian side will positively influence the political situation in the region.
Mammadyarov said the Armenian leadership`s position on changing the borders by force was unacceptable and contrary to the rules and principles of the international law.
Efthimiou said he did not consider the Karabakh conflict frozen. He noted that he would urge all OSCE PA member countries to contribute to ensuring the settlement of the conflict.
