Save the Children, Coca-Cola team up on community development

BAKU – Save the Children and Coca-Cola Azerbaijan have teamed up to provide trainings for children on the importance of protecting their community’s drinking water.

During the trainings, Save the Children’s facilitators taught the students the importance of keeping drinking water clean, and also gave children basic social media networking skills, Save the Children said Wednesday.

Every Drop Matters Project Manager Zamira Abbasova stressed the importance of social media and environmental awareness for youths.

"Youth’s creativity can be stifled with obligations," she said. "If we want them to be responsible for their communities and their problems, we must demonstrate the importance of social media and environmental awareness in their communities. These trainings successfully evoked a feeling of community responsibility in youth."

Coca-Cola Azerbaijan Audit Manager Emin Dostiyari said Coca-Cola "has always stood next" to the communities where it operates. "We are very glad to be a part of such a unique initiative increasing awareness on the importance of protecting drinking water sources. This is our long-term commitment to support local communities and it is a great pleasure to partner with Save the Children."

The training is part of a year-long project to improve access to drinking water in the Seyidli settlement in Azerbaijan’s Khachmaz region. The village of 1,450 is located on the shore of the Caspian Sea in northern Azerbaijan.

Its location and rich history make it a prime target for tourism development.
