Former Azeri MP dies at 40

BAKU – Hundreds of local residents and foreign visitors have gathered in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, to commemorate former parliament member Anar Mammadkhanov, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 40 on Saturday.

President Ilham Aliyev attended the funeral wake on Sunday to express condolences to Mammadkhanov’s family members.

President Aliyev and Mammadkhanov were once friends. For a long time they sat beside each other in parliament when Aliyev served as member of the Milli Majlis and as vice-president of Azerbaijan's state oil company Socar.

Mammadkhanov was publicly known as head of Parni iz Baku (Guys from Baku), a team that played the intellectual game called KVN, a popular TV show in CIS countries.
