ORUMIYEH – The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey signed a declaration during their trilateral talks on Saturday in the northwestern Iranian city of Orumiyeh, which will give an incentive to boosting trade ties, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The first paragraph of the nine-clause declaration, signed by Elmar Mammadyarov, Ali-Akbar Salehi and Ahmet Davutoglu, commits the parties to joint investments to boost economic cooperation, joint implementation of plans on commercial and industrial issues concerning energy, tourism and other sectors.

The parties agreed to establish a tripartite committee on economy, lower tariffs, facilitate border crossing, upgrade and repair the border crossings, and set up joint ventures.

The declaration also has a clause on establishing a committee of consular service representatives to resolve the problems facing citizens traveling abroad.

In addition, the three countries will arrange joint celebrations devoted to historical figures and implement cultural programs.

Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey also agreed to exchange security information and jointly fight terrorism, arms smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal immigration.

The declaration also covers the development of relations among the three countries within international organizations.

According to the document, the three countries condemn crackdowns on people during protests and understand the importance of restoring the cultural and social rights of people.

The parties also agreed to develop relations in the fields of tourism, transport and communications in the borderline areas.

The next meeting between Azerbaijan, Iran and Turkey will be held in October in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan autonomous republic.

The trilateral talks first took place in Istanbul on the margins of the Economic Cooperation Organization meeting in December 2010. The parties then decided to hold such ministerials regularly to discuss regional issues.
