ISESCO chief: Non-enforcement of UN resolutions on Karabakh ‘hypocrisy’

BAKU – The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) chief Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri has labeled as "hypocrisy" the international community’s prompt enforcement of the UN resolution on Libya while failing to implement the UN resolutions on a pullout of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

Since the war in the early 1990s, Armenian troops have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including the Nagorno Karabakh region and its seven surrounding districts, despite the four UN resolutions on their unconditional pullout and condemnation by a number of other international organizations.

"Unfortunately, a double-faced approach, hypocrisy is being seen in international policy today," Altwaijri told reporters in Baku Thursday. "Though the resolutions passed by the UN Security Council urge liberating Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation and restoring the country’s territorial integrity, they have not yet been enforced by the world community. Nonetheless, the resolution on Libya was implemented immediately, and they came to bomb Libya to dictate their will. That’s hypocrisy."

The ISESCO Director General said his organization’s stance on the Karabakh conflict remains unchanged and is firm.

"We have always supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity…We want the dispute to be resolved peacefully and in line with the UN resolutions. We hope that the Armenian government will hear the voice and demands of the world, because these lands historically belong to Azerbaijan and must be returned to Azerbaijan."
