Armenian troops fire on TV reporters
YEREVAN – Armenian armed forces opened fire on Azerbaijani reporters making video footage on the contact line of the two countries’ troops on Tuesday afternoon.
The two reporters of the Baku-based Lider TV channel were subjected to submachine gun fire in a village of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam region.
"Along with the villagers, we faced intense shooting for five to six minutes and were able to survive the onslaught after laying down on the ground," said Habil Aslanoglu, one of the reporters.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for two decades. Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory since a war in the early 1990s. The ceasefire accord has been in place since 1994, but years of OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless, and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
