Azeri watchdog calls for probe into attack on journalist
BAKU – Azerbaijan’s press watchdog has appealed to Interior Minister Ramil Usubov requesting an investigation into the attack on an opposition newspaper’s journalist.
In his written appeal, Press Council chairman Aflatun Amashov asked the minister to ensure a prompt and unbiased probe into the beating of Azadlig newspaper’s reporter Seymur Haziyev by unknown individuals on Saturday.
Haziyev claims that he was attacked due to his criticism of the government. He says he has already faced violence three times in the past.
