French school to open in Baku

BAKU – A French school will be built in Baku, according to a preliminary agreement reached on Tuesday. The school will allow French-speaking foreign nationals living in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani citizens to study in French.

The school’s curriculum will comply with a standard French model applied in 12-grade general education institutions. Diplomas, which will meet the requirements of the French education ministry, will be recognized by the government of France. Graduates will have the opportunity to continue their education in any French university they choose.

A relevant declaration was signed by Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva, French Ambassador in Baku Gabriel Keller, President of Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev, and Education Minister Misir Mardanov.

The Azerbaijani First Lady expressed hope that the new school will contribute to the development of education in Azerbaijan.

Aliyeva highly assessed French-Azerbaijani relations, terming the planned opening of a French school in Baku as another step in the successful development of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Keller thanked the head of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the assistance provided, saying it was tremendously important for bilateral relations.
