Azeri warplane crashes during test flight
BAKU – A warplane of Azerbaijan’s air force crashed on Thursday during an exercise 180 km away from the capital Baku, according to the Defense Ministry. No casualties are reported.
The ministry’s deputy spokesman Teymur Abdullayev said an emergency occurred on board the Su-25 fighter jet during the test flight, and it exploded after its two crew members baled out.
The plane is said to have crashed while landing after its chassis failed to eject.
A similar accident occurred in March 2010 when a Su-25 attack plane crashed during a test flight in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz district, killing its pilot.
