New US ambassador due in Azerbaijan in weeks
BAKU – The newly appointed US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza is due to arrive in Baku in the coming weeks, Charge d’Affaires Adam Sterling has said.
Sterling told reporters that the US State Department has not yet reported a date of Bryza’s arrival.
"We can’t say at this point when exactly Matthew Bryza will arrive, but we are expecting him to be here within the next two weeks," the diplomat said.
Bryza has been appointed as US ambassador to Azerbaijan under President Barack Obama’s decision. The appointment, which had been stalled by lawmakers for months, was welcomed by Baku.
Bryza served as deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs and represented the U.S. on the OSCE’s Minsk Group talks on settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
