Karabakh ministerial not detailed
MOSCOW – The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia met in Moscow on Monday to discuss the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh. No details of the meeting were disclosed.
Armenia’s Foreign Ministry told Radio Liberty’s Armenian Service that "the ministers discussed the issues of Karabakh conflict settlement that are on the agenda".
Russian news agency ITAR-TASS reported prior to the ministerial that Elmar Mammadyarov, Eduard Nalbandian and Sergei Lavrov would discuss the next visit of the mediating OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, which is due in February.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a cease-fire in 1994. 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent districts, has been under Armenian occupation since then. Defying international law, the separatist regime in Nagorno Karabakh declared so-called independence in 1991.
The Minsk Group co-chairs representing the United States, Russia and France have said they were trying to bring into conformity the principles of the territorial integrity of states and self-determination of nations to resolve the dispute.
