Fire hits Baku hospital building; no casualties

25 December 2010 11:38 (UTC+04:00)

BAKU – A fire broke out on Friday morning at a building that previously housed a hospital in the center of Baku.

The blaze, which engulfed 1,000 square meters, is said to have resulted from a short circuit in wires.

Over 20 fire trucks were pulled to the site in the Sabayil district of the capital. Two firefighters were injured.

Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby residential buildings and about 50 people were evacuated to safety.

No one was hurt in the fire as the building was shut for repair, the emergencies ministry said.
