BAKU – Visitors had a unique opportunity to enjoy Korean food at restaurant Shilla in Baku on November 30. It is a Korean restaurant, but the place was full of people from across the world who came here to enjoy delicacies prepared by cooks who arrived in the Azerbaijani capital from the faraway country. The chefs even brought food from Korea with them to cook.

According to South Korean Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Jiha, this unique party was organized according to the Korean government`s plan to promote national cuisine abroad. The event aims to promote Korean dishes in Azerbaijan, where this food is not known well.

Korean chefs wearing national clothes first showed visitors how to cook ``kimchi``, which is considered the main dish in Korea. Remarkably, Seoul hosts a kimchi museum and a kimchi institute. The museum displays 70 types of this dish. Plain kimchi is a spicy dish, which is cooked using Korean cabbage, a variety of vegetables and red peppers.

The chefs also showed how to cook dishes called Bibimbap and Dakgalbi. Then, visitors had the opportunity to taste an abundance of Korean dishes.

National sweets, agricultural goods and wine made from rice were displayed at the party as well.

Tahir Amiraslanov, head of the Azerbaijan National Culinary Center, said at the event that South Korea has very healthy food and its promotion in Azerbaijan will be successful. ``The taste of their food is similar to our dishes,`` he added.

Korea was rated among top ten in the rating of countries with healthy foods released by the US Forbes magazine this year.
