BAKU – EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby plans to discuss Azerbaijan's post-election situation in Baku.

"The visit aims to study the political situation in Azerbaijan after the parliamentary elections [held November 7], meetings with governmental officials and political forces. It is necessary to think how to move and what conclusions can be made after the elections," Semneby told media on arrival in Baku within the working visit on Thursday.

The ruling Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP), chaired by President Ilham Aliyev, gained a 72-seat majority in the 125-member legislature. 12 candidates representing 10 other parties were elected to the Milli Majlis as well. Independent candidates claimed the remaining 41 seats in the legislature.

690 candidates stood in the parliamentary elections. Parliament members were elected for a five-year term under the majority of votes.
