Armenia stages drills in occupied Azeri land

BAKU – Armenian armed forces launched military exercises in an occupied Azerbaijani region on Thursday.

About 50 roaring explosions have been heard so far in the Aghdam region near the contact line of the two countries’ troops, the Baku-based ANS TV channel reported. Heavy artillery units and armored vehicles are believed to have fired the shells.

Local residents say they have seen helicopters hovering above ground as well.

Armenia and Azerbaijan waged a war in the early 1990s. Armenia still occupies part of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory. OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
