Cards for seamen to be issued
Azerbaijani seamen will be issued service cards in the near future,
chief of the State Naval Administration Gudrat Gurbanov said.
He said a relevant draft document had been approved by the Milli Majlis (parliament) and was now under consideration at the President's Office.
"The plastic cards to contain information, eye colors and fingerprints of card holders will allow preventing forgery of documentation," Gurbanov said.
He said the procedure was necessary given that Azerbaijan had joined over 20 international conventions. The measure is in line with a practice applied in Scandinavian and European countries.
Gurbanov added that Azerbaijan would be the first-ever CIS state to issue such cards.
