Azerbaijan’s military power ‘a top priority’ in 2011 budget
BAKU – Increasing Azerbaijan’s defense capabilities is one of the priorities in the 2011 state budget, Finance Minister Samir Sharifov has said.
He told a meeting of parliamentary committees Monday that Azerbaijan will spend about $3.287 billion on its armed forces, other military units and institutions next year.
Sharifov said the funds aim to strengthen logistics of the military and finance special defense industry projects and activities.
The share of defense spending in the 2011 budget has almost doubled to 18.9 percent in comparison with 2010.
Next year’s investment expenses will also include funds designated for defense.
