Azerbaijan to raise defense spending in 2011
BAKU – Over $1.656 billion will be allocated for Azerbaijan’s defense industry from the state budget in 2011, about 10 percent over 2010, a lawmaker has said.
Nearly $1.546bn will be spent to maintain the military, while about $104.1 million will be directed to national security, and $2.7m to defense and security research.
"Moreover, a certain amount is envisaged for defense in the budget’s investment spending section," said Nazim Mammadov, a member of the parliamentary committee on economic policy.
This year, Azerbaijan was initially to spend almost $1.507bn on defense, but the amount was increased by $500m during a review of the budget in mid-2010.
