Azeri minister: Visas with Iran in place over Karabakh conflict
BAKU – Azerbaijan has not cancelled visa regulations with neighboring Iran due to its being in a state of war with Armenia, Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev has said.
"I hope that once the Nagorno Karabakh conflict finds its solution, we will primarily cancel the visa regime for Iranian citizens," he said in a meeting in Tabriz with East Azarbaijan Province's general governor Ahmad Alireza Beigi, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.
Garayev said further that 2 million tourists visited Azerbaijan in 2009, including 350,000 Iranian nationals.
Beigi said Iran has already invalidated visa regulations with Azerbaijan and expects the neighboring country to follow suit.
