UN envoy backs assigning special rep on Karabakh

BAKU – The Director-General of Kofi Annan's Global Humanitarian Forum, Chair of the UNESCO International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC), Ambassador Walter Fust, supports the initiative to appoint a UN Special Representative on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"It's a quite interesting proposal, I think it will contribute to solving the conflict," said Fust, YES Azerbaijan international advisory group reported.

It is time to resolve the conflict, which creates so many problems for the region, said Fust.

The UN must appoint a special representative for the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, the former Latvian president and special envoy to the UN Secretary General and Vice-Chairman of the group of experts on the long-term development of the European Union, said earlier in Baku.
