Azerbaijan, Austria to co-op in fighting customs violations
BAKU – Azerbaijan and Austria signed an agreement in Baku Wednesday on joint combat against customs violations.
Azerbaijani State Customs Committee chairman Aydin Aliyev, a co-signatory of the memorandum, said Azerbaijan and Austria enjoyed close cooperation.
He said further that the current bilateral trade turnover does not fully reflect the level of collaboration, pointing to extensive potential to boost it further.
"We are presently cooperating with Austria in a number of fields, including customs. Austria has extensive experience in this area, and Azerbaijan intends to capitalize on it."
The Austrian Finance Ministry’s state secretary for customs issues Reinhold Lopatka, who co-signed the memorandum, also said his country was seeking to forge ties with the South Caucasus republic in numerous fields, with finance, customs and other similar areas being a priority.
"In the field of customs, we will be cooperating with Azerbaijan in introducing and using search dogs. We also have broad experience on the environment, healthcare, tourism and other fields, and we could share it with Azerbaijan."
