Azerbaijan donates another $1m for Pakistan flood victims
BAKU – Azerbaijan has donated another $1 million in aid for the victims of the devastating floods in Pakistan on orders from President Ilham Aliyev.
Earlier, the country allocated the same amount for the flood-affected people.
In addition to the allocation, an Azerbaijani Defense Ministry plane loaded with 40 tons of food totaling around $437,000 as well as clothing and domestic items flew to Pakistan on Friday, according to the Foreign Ministry.
On Sunday, another plane carrying food worth over $131,000, clothing and medicine, allocated by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, will be sent to the country.
The floods have caused massive damage to the life, property and infrastructure of Pakistan. About 2,000 people have died, thousands have been injured, around 5,000 villages have been swept away with the floods and about 14 million people have been affected and have become homeless. The United Nations has declared this calamity worse than the 2004 tsunami and the recent earthquakes in the Americas.
The exact figures of this colossal loss are yet to be determined. However, the preliminary estimates of damage to infrastructure amounts to billions of dollars.
