Azeri gov’t pledges tough response to election violations

BAKU – An Azerbaijani official has said equal conditions must be provided for the campaigns of all candidates running for the November 7 parliamentary elections, pledging the government’s tough response to irregularities.

"Heads of executive authorities have been instructed to provide suitable conditions for everyone to use the locations designated for campaigning," the Presidential Administration department head Zeynal Naghdaliyev said.

Naghdaliyev told the opening of training sessions for the chairmen of district election commissions on Monday that the authorities would respond more tersely to violators.

"The Azerbaijani president dismissed the Naftalan executive authority head due to violations of law during the municipal elections. During the [upcoming] parliamentary elections, this stance will be further toughened."
