Paper on Armenian pullout distributed at UN
A draft resolution on unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian
armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories has been
distributed at the United Nations.
The document, handed out by Azerbaijani representatives at the 62nd
session of the UN General Assembly, also pointed to the importance
of providing suitable conditions for the co-existence of the
Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh in
the future, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Khazar Ibrahim told
journalists.
Armenia has been occupying over 20% of Azerbaijan's
internationally-recognized territory since the early 1990s in
defiance of international law.
Azerbaijan has called on the UN to facilitate establishing an
effective democratic governance system in Upper Garabagh. The draft
resolution said the ongoing occupation of Garabagh and adjacent
districts considerably disrupted regional stability.
The ministry spokesman said distributing the paper at the UN GA
aimed to muster support for it. He added that the situation in the
occupied territories will be put on discussion at the next session
of the assembly due in September.
