Police disperse opposition rally in Baku
BAKU – Police dispersed an unsanctioned opposition rally downtown Baku on Saturday, reportedly arresting around 100 protesters.
The anti-government protest was organized by the opposition Musavat and Popular Front parties.
Protesters were calling for free elections and were also attempting to highlight what they claim is the lack of civil liberties in the country.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is holding talks with Baku city authorities in an attempt to lift alleged restrictions on rallies in central locations.
