Bidding opens for new culture TV

BAKU – Azeri National Broadcasting Council (NBC) has launched bidding to establish a new TV channel, which would specialize in culture programs.

The decision on a new TV channel NBC made at its Friday meeting, which mulled the current situation in national broadcasting, the broadcasting council said in its statement.

The members of the council pointed out to the shortcomings of local TV channels, which strive for cheap rating, covering mainly showbiz news.

The need was underlined for opening a dedicated culture channel, which would promote Azerbaijan’s spiritual values, history and geography, as well as world culture.

In accordance with article 15 of the "Law on Broadcasting" of Azerbaijan, NBC announced bidding to open a new TV channel named "Culture" covering Baku and Absheron on 44 MHz frequency.
