NATO PA to state its position on Karabakh conflict this fall – Azeri MP

BAKU – The President of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA), Mr. John Tanner promised to Azeri MP Ziyafat Asgarov that the parliament of the North-Atlantic alliance will state its official position on Nagorno Karabakh conflict this fall.

MP Ziyafat Asgarov, who is First Vice-speaker of Azeri parliament and head of the Azeri delegation to NATO PA, told APA that the North-Atlantic alliance is going to mull the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict over the Nagorno Karabakh in its autumn session.

Azeri First Vice-speaker told Mr. John Tanner earlier that except NATO most of international organizations, including Council of Europe, European Union and UN Security Council have stated their official position on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

"Why doesn’t NATO Parliamentary Assembly express its position on the conflict?" Mr. Asgarov asked the NATO official.

He had provided Mr. Tanner with all resolutions and decisions adopted by the international organizations on Nagorno Karabakh so far.

According to Azeri First Vice-speaker, Armenia is being isolated from the international community.

"Armenia will always feel uncomfortable, because it understands that it has occupied the territory of another country and is pursuing an aggressive policy. Armenia does not want any international organization to pass a decision about its policy."

Earlier, the speaker of the Armenian parliament, Mr. Ovik Abramyan, sent a letter to Mr. John Tanner expressing concern over the looming NATO PA report on Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

NATO Parliamentary Assembly fall session is due to be held in November in Warsaw, Poland.
