Opposition party ready to cooperate with gov’t

10 July 2010 18:13 (UTC+04:00)
BAKU - The Azerbaijani National Independence Party (ANIP) decided at its 10th congress to cooperate with the government "to protect Azerbaijan from outside pressure".
The party congress adopted a statement on Upper-Garabagh conflict saying: "The party intends to cooperate with the government to protect the country from pressure in the Upper-Garabagh conflict, eliminate bitter consequences of the Armenian aggression and ensure the return of the one million refugees to their homes.
"Only national unity and mutual trust may help in the solution of these problems."
ANIP says the maintaining of the status quo in Garabagh conflict is a blow to international security and peace, and contributes to the spread of separatism and terrorism.
The party sees a military solution as acceptable for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict and urges a suspension of the OSCE-brokered peace talks.
