Condoleezza Rice, Mikhail Gorbachev may visit Baku on global tour
The United States’ former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former Defense Secretary William Perry and ex-USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev may reportedly arrive in Baku. The visit may be paid as part of a tour being organized by the World Leaders Travel organization, according to Ukraine’s Delfi news portal.
The Global Challenges in a Post-Perestroika World tour will take place from August 30 to September 15. A number of addresses and discussions with leading experts and scholars covering issues of the region’s political and cultural diversity are planned.
The tour will begin in Moscow and end in Istanbul. Under initial plans, its participants may leave Russia for the Georgian capital Tbilisi and then head to either Batumi in Georgia or the Azerbaijani capital. They are further expected to leave for Ukraine.
Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev is considered one of the main culprits of the killings perpetrated in Baku in January 1990, when the USSR was on the brink of collapse.*
