‘Azerbaijan is not going to join European Union and NATO’
Azerbaijan is keen on cooperation with the European Union and
NATO but has no plans to become a member of these organizations,
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has said.
Mammadyarov said in an interview with Germany’s Frankfurter
Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that Euro-Atlantic integration remains
a priority in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, but added: "We have to
clearly understand that integration does not mean membership. Our
cooperation with NATO and the European Union will continue for the
purpose of pursuing the reforms we need."
The minister added that Azerbaijan is trying to introduce European
standards in a variety of areas.
