Azerbaijan stages large-scale drills after deadly frontline shooting
Azerbaijan’s power-wielding agencies have conducted large-scale
military exercises in an effort to strengthen their interaction in
the face of the recent armed attack from arch-foe Armenia.
The main stage of the four-day drills, carried out by the Defense Ministry, the State Border Service and the Interior Troops, took place on Thursday and was followed by President Ilham Aliyev.
Over 4,000 staff, 100 tanks, 77 armored vehicles, 125 artillery systems, 17 fighter jets, and 16 helicopters of different types were involved in the exercises, according to the Defense Ministry.
The exercises came just days after Azerbaijani and Armenian troops clashed on the frontline in Azerbaijan’s occupied Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh region. Both sides sustained casualties in the fighting.*
