NATO sees progress on partnership plan with Azerbaijan: Romania envoy
The NATO mission has highly assessed the implementation of its Individual Partnership Plan (IPAP) with Azerbaijan, the Romanian Ambassador in Baku Nikolae Ureche has said.
"A mission headed by the NATO Secretary General’s special envoy on the South Caucasus, Robert Simmons, finalized its appraisal work yesterday. Discussions are currently underway on the third stage of the Plan," Ureche told a conference, "Prospects for NATO-Azerbaijan partnership: the Azerbaijani society’s expectations", in Baku on Friday.
The IPAP began to be executed in April 2005. The first stage of the Plan was completed by January 2008, while the second stage covered the period until January 2010.
Foreign Ministry representative Emin Ibrahimov, who attended the conference, said Azerbaijan attaches importance to its partnership with the alliance, but does not see membership in the bloc as a priority.*
