Azerbaijan’s damage from war exceeds $87bn: gov’t
Azerbaijan sustained damage worth up to 70 billion manats (over $87 billion) from the war fought with Armenia in the early 1990s, according to the latest estimates, says head of the State Committee for Refugees and Displaced Persons.
Ali Hasanov told reporters that the figure is 100-fold higher than the damage inflicted to the neighboring South Caucasus republic.
Hasanov added that the inflicted damage will be rectified after Azerbaijani territories are liberated from Armenian occupation.
Since the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan including the Upper Garabagh region and its seven surrounding districts, despite four standing UN resolutions on unconditional pullout of Armenian troops and condemnation by a number of other international organizations.*
