Azerbaijan, Russia stage naval drills
Azerbaijani and Russian border patrol officers conducted joint exercises in the Caspian Sea on Monday.
The exercises covered combating terror and smuggling, drug trafficking, exposing and preventing illegal migration, protecting biological resources, providing emergency assistance to ships that crashed, and rescue operations, the Azerbaijan State Border Service told AssA-Irada.
During the three-stage exercises, border patrol officers practiced search and detention of a trespassing ship and neutralizing its crew as well as the use of naval artillery.
The drills involved border patrol vessels, high-speed boats, prompt response groups, technical surveillance facilities and borderline aviation forces.
The exercises aimed at expanding cooperation in safeguarding maritime borders, forging ties in an effort to ward off potential threats at sea, streamlining practices in conducting joint borderline operations and improving interaction in rescue work.*
