Anglo-Azerbaijani society holds charity event
Anglo–Azerbaijani Society has held its annual charity event in
Baku bringing together Azerbaijani statesmen and politicians, MPs,
heads of the local and foreign companies.
The event was organized by the co-chairs of the Society, Professor
Nargiz Pashayeva and Lord Fraser. Fraser spoke about numerous
events and large-scale projects implemented in past years as well
as the merits of the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society in deepening
humanitarian and cultural relations.
Pashayeva said friendly relations have been established between
Azerbaijan and the UK, and the Anglo-Azerbaijani Society has made a
great contribution to these relations.
Pashayeva also briefed attendees on humanitarian activities. She
said that in June 2008, funds were spent to restore a retirement
home in the Ramana settlement of Baku, to set up a computer room
and repair the Boarding School No.7 in the Saray settlement as well
as to implement a project of the HealthProm British Charitable
Society seeking to reduce prenatal mortality.
The Anglo-Azerbaijani Society is the principal organization drawing
together the cultural, charitable and other links between the
Azerbaijan and the UK. It was established in 1997 to support
Azerbaijani-British relations in all spheres and to assist
charitable endeavors in Azerbaijan; to keep members closely
informed on the developments in Azerbaijan and to increase public
awareness about Azerbaijan in the UK.
The membership comprises major British companies in the oil,
banking, insurance, engineering, services, communications, law and
other sectors. Sponsors of the Society are: Amec, Abbot Group, BP
(the foundation sponsor), the International Bank of Azerbaijan and
the ITE Group.*
