Azerbaijan says would crush Armenia if war erupts
The Azerbaijan Defense Ministry has said that if war erupts anew with Armenia, the arch-foe country will be defeated in a short time.
"If there is a second Garabagh war, it will result in enemy Armenia’s defeat, and we are stating this while confiding in our arms and ammunition and the combat readiness of our soldiers," the ministry spokesman, Lieut.-Col. Eldar Sabiroghlu said.
"So long as our lands are under occupation, Azerbaijan will continue arming its army," he told a news conference in the frontline Terter region on Friday.
Azerbaijan and Armenia fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia continues to occupy Upper Garabagh and seven other Azerbaijani districts in defiance of international law. The OSCE-brokered peace talks have accomplished little so far.
Sabiroghlu said Azerbaijan is completely ready for a final battle.
"The Azerbaijani army is ready for a state of war in all respects, and it can fulfill the set-forth task in any extreme conditions. Our military has been equipped with radar stations complying with world standards and keeps any Armenian area under supervision."
According to Sabiroghlu, the Armenian armed forces, on the contrary, are faced with a dire situation, and the heads of the country’s government agencies admit this. The military capacities of Armenia, which is facing an economic predicament, are collapsing, Sabiroghlu said.
He said that since January, ceasefire on the contact line of the two countries’ troops has been violated 280 times, resulting in causalities.
"Every casualty was reciprocated with double casualties, but the Armenians are concealing their losses," Sabiroghlu said.
