Azerbaijani cellular operator Bakcell has announced that, as a responsible corporate citizen and in line with its strategy to support children, the company has held a major event to support a project being implemented by Save the Children, an international organization providing relief to some of the world`s most vulnerable children.
The children`s party was hosted by the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall within the Bakcell`s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program entitled ``Bakcell Stars``. During the party children performed theatrical sketches to express their vision of ``positive behavior``.
Bakcell CEO Ineke Botter explained the Bakcell Stars program by saying that ``this is a fun event for children and we are looking forward to seeing the results of this project``.
``We are very pleased to support the children`s project as Bakcell Stars truly believes that children are our future. Bakcell Stars` philosophy is based on the fact that every child is a star with the right to shine.``
Bakcell Stars will launch an SMS campaign to contribute to the Save the Children project. This campaign allows Bakcell customers to donate 1 manat ($1.25) or 450 talk units by sending text messages to the 1155 number. Also, Bakcell Stars has opened its own bank account and works in a financially transparent and auditable manner.
Bakcell Stars and Save the Children began to promote the ideas of tolerance, good behavior and making healthy choices among school children beginning in September 2009. Bakcell Stars and Save the Children also organized puppet shows in several schools in Baku, Absheron Peninsula and Sumqayit.
Save the Children is the world`s leading independent organization working to defend the rights and improve the lives of children in over 120 countries. Save the Children`s multi-sector programs, including education, health and nutrition, economic opportunities and relief, have positively affected the lives of over 1 million children and their parents in Azerbaijan since 1993.
